A chord of 48cm is 7cm from the center of a circle.
calculate the area of the circle. ​

Answer:

Draw a picture and you'll see a right triangle with sides = 7 and 24 and hypotenuse = r (the cricle's radius).  By the Pythagorean Theorem:

 

r2 = 72 + 242

 

Area = pi·r2
