The slope of a line parallel to the x axis is 0 because 
slope = rise / run
and since it's parallel to the x axis (horizontal), the rise is 0.

The slope of a line through (-3, 5) and (1, 7) is
= (7 - 5) / (1 - (-3) )
= 2 / 4 
= 1 / 2
